Soooo, it’s been a while.
I know I promised quite a few things to do, and then….I didn’t. And I didn’t do anything, really. Yikes.
I’m sorry, but I’m going to strive to be more frequent now!
𝕙𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕤𝕥𝕠𝕡𝕡𝕖𝕣 𝕧𝕠𝕝𝕦𝕞𝕖 𝟙
Today, we’re going to review Heartstopper Volume 1, which I had promised to all of you!
Immediately I’m not going to be reading Volume 2, since I am currently reading Shadow and Bone! Which I will be reviewing along with the rest of the series, because I have a lot of thoughts.
Now let’s start the review!
We start off with our lovely Charlie Spring - but also with his boyfriend *shudders* Ben Hope. I think that’s his last name; I don’t know for sure, but you guys know I’m too lazy to check.
First of all, Charlie is an angel and deserves to be protected at all costs, and Ben deserves to rot in a sticky hole. Yes, I know Ben has his issues that he needs to overcome, but…sorry, nobody hurts my Charlie.
Charlie doesn’t have to deal with sticky Ben anymore, because he’s in a new form group and sits next to - Nick Nelson, Rugby star and esteemed golden retriever. Who also is literal sunshine and is the sweetest character ever.
If you have read heartstopper, or even heard of it, you obviously know that Charlie and Nick are going to get together - whether or not it’s in this volume.
Anyways, Charlie and Nick have the most mind-blowing and conversation EVER.
What an interaction!
We meet Charlie’s best friend, and the most protective of our beloved Charlie - Tao Xu. Tao is very suspicious of Nick being friends with Charlie, and we quickly find out Charlie has a crush on Nick (*gasp* Who could’ve seen that coming?).
Tao believes Nick is straight, and does really approve of Nick, as he thinks he’s like the other boys Nick is friends with, who are pricks.
I understand where Tao is coming from, and how he’s protective of Charlie, blah-blah, but look at this boy:
Charlie finds out Ben has a girlfriend (yes, they’re still together), so he sends a text to Mr. Hope, and tells him the relationship is over. Yay!
But later after practice (Charlie joined the rugby team for Nick, it’s no biggie, he’s just that in love) Charlie gets a text from Ben, telling him to meet him in the library.
Yes, at that moment most of us were shouting “Don’t go!” while reading (or watching the TV show) but alas, Charlie goes, and he actually tells Ben his shit. Go Charlie! But Ben in response literally forces himself on Charle…
If I was there, I’d beat the shit out of that prick but alas I’m not in the world of heartstopper. Luckily, our golden retriever Nick Nelson is the hero and saviour of Charlie Spring.
Nick is perfect, honestly. Not all men. Yes, Nick Nelson wouldn’t do this to me.
After this most of the book is Nickie and Charlie getting closer and Nickie boy falling in love with Charlie.
I haven’t mentioned HOW FREAKING ADORABLE THIS BOOK IS! LIKE WHY ARE THEY SO CUTEEEE!
Next, Harry - a boy from Nick’s team - invites Nick to his birthday party, and Nick brings Charlie as well.
And Harry’s…another prick. Or bully, which is another term. I hate two people in this book, and it's both Harry and Ben.
Look at the guy…what a little shit.
He’s- I don’t know why- obsessed with Nick to be with this girl named Tara who he kissed when they were 13. Oh my god, 13. But Tara’s actually a lesbian! Go girl. I LOVE Tara, we get to see her more in Volume 2 or 3, I think, with her girlfriend; Darcy- who I also love.
Harry’s just homophobic…so. Frick him. That’s all I gotta say about him.
We end the book with Charlie and Nick kissing, in an empty room…
What an end.
If I literally read this when it just came out, I’d be pissed.
But that was heartstopper. I love this series and the show, and that’s all I have to say about this book.
