babe chronicles ✨
Hi,
I’m Eesha Samantray from the Samantray Post, and today I’m reviewing
my most awaited book to read this month – The Bane Chronicles!
I
really love the comic strips of a scene at the beginning of each short story.
The art style is amazing and it really is unique.
This
book is a collection of short stories following our favourite warlock; Magnus
Bane!
I’m
excited to see my second favourite character’s adventures, and (hopefully) some
Malec!
~ What Really Happened In Peru ~
I
love Ragnor. We barely saw him in the Infernal Devices and he was dead in the
Mortal Instruments, but here he’s the saltiest warlock alive.
The
short story is like a short compilation of Magnus’s time in Peru, but at the
end they never say why he’s banned? And Magnus doesn’t even know either.
Anyway,
I’d like to talk about one of the times he went to Peru.
Magnus
is practicing an instrument because of an instructor he liked. But everyone
hates his music. Finally, even his crush broke down and was like ‘I love you
but I can’t hold it back; you’re music fricking sucks’, then he goes on roasting
his music. Like, damn.
Well,
anyway, Imasu breaks his heart later. Ironically his reason was that Magnus didn’t
seem “permanent”.
Hun…
“”I’m surprised it lasted this long; he was much better looking than you,” mumbled Ragnor.”
Holy
shit Ragnor is one of my favourite characters.
And
then Magnus gets drunk and wants to become a cactus.
I
really love this story; Magnus was fabulous as always and ‘twas just so fun
reading it.
~ The Runway Queen ~
I
love how every story Magnus flirts with every handsome man and woman.
This
short story is about Marie Antoinette and a hot air balloon.
Also,
Magnus has a Count love interest.
Pretty
coo, right?
Context:
Magnus gets asks by Mr. Count gay (sorry meant guy) to save the queen and king.
Magnus glamours her successfully, but the bish gets lost and goes to the
vampire party Magnus was at, and he had to save her, making him banned from
Paris.
But
at least he got a kiss from Mr. Count gay.
This
guy keeps getting banned from places, geez.
Not
one of my favourite stories, but still love it.
~ Vampires, Scones And Edmund Herondale
~
This
has so much ties to the Infernal Devices and I love it.
Edmund
Herondale is Will’s dad, and quickly becomes friends with Magnus.
I
hate Camille, but seeing her and Magnus flirt in front of the Clave was so
funny.
Edmund
falls in love with a mundane girl and wants to stop being a Shadowhunter to be
with her.
Ralf
Scott – You can see Camille starting to fall in love with him and vice versa.
We know De Quincy kills him later, leaving his brother Woolsey Scott to be the
head of the pack.
I
really love this short story.
~ The Midnight Heir ~
This
short story has the first appearance of James Herondale; son of Will Herondale
and Tessa Grey, along with his parents.
He’s
drunk and Magnus has to take him back to his parents.
I
love this story because we see grown up Will and Tessa being parents, and an
appearance of Jem!
I
love this.
~ The Rise Of The Hotel Dumort ~
Apparently,
it was owned by a crazy warlock who want to go to the demon dimension.
We
see Magnus hearing his dad…so that’s fun.
But
what I really want to get into is the next story.
~ Saving Raphael Santiago ~
This
story was a ride.
A
woman comes to Magnus, telling him of a vampire whose kidnapping children and
makes him swear to save her son; Raphael. He tracks him to the Hotel Dumort,
and sees a vampire feeding on a child, who dies.
Magnus
demands the vampire if it was Raphael, but then the vamp reveals that he
is Raphael Santiago.
Apparently,
Raphael
killed the vampire who Turned him, which even
Magnus admits he’s never heard of anyone who did that. So, he’s pretty
powerful. Also, he was FIFTEEN. Move over Camille, Raphael is the most powerful
vampire.
So,
Magnus practically raises Raphael for years to control his impulses so that he can
see his family again.
I
love Raphael. The face that Ragnor and him became besties over insulting
Magnus.
No,
we’re not going to talk about the fact he’s dead.
~ The Fall Of The Hotel Dumort ~
So,
all the vampires are on crack and are attacking mundanes.
And
Magnus saves everyone as usual.
Not
my favourite story, but still good.
~ What To Buy The Shadowhunter Who Has Everything
~
{ And Who You’re Not Officially Dating }
I
LOVE THIS SHORT STORY. MY SECOND FAVOURITE.
Magnus
is just gushing over Alec in this story…and I’m not complaining.
The
Malec in this…
I
love him asking Catarina and Ragnor what to get Alec for his 18th birthday.
I’ve been WAITING for Malec for 7 SHORT STORIES and it’s been
worth it.
I
love Magnus constantly wishing Alec being with him. And all the while I’m like ‘Honey,
you’re in love.’
He
thinks about their date at Taki’s, where Alec stands up to protect Magnus from
a werewolf, and Magnus is smitten.
And
the demon gets a special mention; he was so funny.
Izzy
comes to give Magnus her number so that if anything happens to Alec, she’d tell
him. I LOVE THIS. Izzy and Magnus friendship go!
And
Alec appears in the end, wanting to be with Magnus for his birthday. I can’t-
Oh my god.
~ The Last Stand Of The New York Institute
~
Damn,
Luke was an asshole, but at least he changed at the end.
Magnus
goes to a werewolf place, where Valentine and his Circle are going to kill
innocent werewolves.
He
sees Stephen Herondale, a reminder of Will and Edmund, but his corrupt nature
making Magnus hate him.
Luke
swears the wolves have done wrong, believing Valentine’s lies, while Magnus asks
them what they’re fighting for.
“”I am fighting for a better world for myself and my son,” said the woman named Maryse.
“I have no interest in the world you want,” Magnus told her. “Or in your doubtless repellent brat.””
Who’s
gonna tell him?
Magnus
fights Valentine, but he scythes his legs. Valentine kills a werewolf child, making
Luke think about how cruel his Parabatai is.
It
was amazing to see characters do bad things that we only heard about. But now I
want to fan-girl over the next story.
~ The Course Of True Love ~
{ And First Dates }
Magnus
wakes up and panics that he agreed to go on a date with a Shadowhunter, and
calls Catarina to be an escape from the date if it turns bad.
Alec
turns up an hour late because of Jace (Damn you, Jace. You’re still a cockblock
in the books)
GAH!
I love this, and totally agree.
Magnus
gives Alec a drink and he immediately drops it on his shirt. My clumsy baby.
But at least we got Magnus being dumbstruck by Alec’s shirtless body.
It
reminds of that show scene:
They
go on the subway to their date, but Magnus almost gets mugged.
This
is amazing.
Magnus
makes a mistake by bringing Alec to a Downworlder restaurant, so everyone’s
like ‘Ew, Shadowhunter! Frick off!’
And
the waiter almost poisons Alec. And as if the date could not be spoiled more, a
faeirie ex of Magnus comes in and splashes Magnus in the face with water.
Catarina
calls and Magnus thinks its an exit for him, but Catarina’s like ‘No idiot this
is an actually emergency! Bring your Shadowhunter boyfriend!’
My
pure babies!
Malec
pinned the werewolf together (power couple!!!) Alec comforts the girl that she
didn’t want to hurt anyone and Magnus is smitten.
Malec
kiss and its amazing. They agree to see each other again, and Alec falls down
some stairs.
My
clumsy baby!
~ The Voice Mail Of Magnus Bane ~
Wow,
the only acceptable one is Clary’s (surprising I know) because the others were
Isabelle being “Date my brother or else”.
MY FINAL THOUGHTS
I
LOVED THIS BOOK! Magnus was magnificent as always and it was absolutely amazing
to see him as a main character.
Obviously,
the main reason I love this book is malec. They were so sweet and touching;
and definitely my favourite parts!
This
is the first time I immediately want to reread a book immediately after finishing
it.
That’s
it! Hope you enjoyed my review.
If
you haven’t, check out my ‘the mortal instruments’ review part one and two.
