this show is over and i am bawling | shadowhunter - the finale (ep 21&22) review

Hey guys, this is Eesha Samantray from the Samantray Post. I’m doing everything to not cry on my laptop, but I am going to be reviewing the FINALE of SHADOWHUNTERS.

 

 

On Freeform, they had a singular 1.5 hour episode Finale, but on Netflix its divided into episode 21 and 22, so we’re going to review it separately.

 

𝓮𝓹𝓲𝓼𝓸𝓭𝓮 21: 𝓶𝓪𝓵𝓮𝓬 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓻𝓮𝓾𝓷𝓲𝓽𝓮𝓭 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓘 𝓵𝓸𝓿𝓮 𝔀𝓪𝓻𝓵𝓸𝓬𝓴!𝓐𝓵𝓮𝓬

 

Magnus defying Lilith is so badass. I love how they incorporated the binding rune from the book; City of Glass. I love that.

Clary and Simon are bonded. This is obvious. It was cute to see Clary say she wouldn’t trade the Shadow World for anything.

It was so fun to see Jace and Meliorn bonded, seeing Jace unable to lie. Telling Izzy that Simon is a good man and he admires him. Could honestly have a whole season of just this Jace. Much better guy.

And Meliorn is obviously a ten, Jace.

ALEC BEING BONDED WITH MELIORN!

 

They did Warlock!Alec! I loved this Alec, even if we got only ten minutes of him. Him unable to control his powers, but then can when he sees the ring…my malec heart!

 

The Malec reunion! All I wanted. Alec saying he’ll stay with him in Edom, I can’t. A Magnus and his biscuit reunion scene, wow. I can’t believe it.

Luke is a Shadowhunter again! If he’s happy, then I’m happy.

 

𝓮𝓹𝓲𝓼𝓸𝓭𝓮 22: 𝓲𝓽𝓼 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓯𝓲𝓷𝓪𝓵 𝓮𝓹𝓲𝓼𝓸𝓭𝓮 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓲𝓶 𝓫𝓪𝔀𝓵𝓲𝓷𝓰

 

Let’s divide this up.

MALEC

I can’t with this ship.

Them having the wedding in the institute is so awesome and symbolic. Their first kiss being there and the fact that they’re sticking it to the Clave, showing a gesture.

 

The wedding was perfect! The decorations, the flowers, Maryse walking Magnus down the aisle, the candles. I could talk about the wedding for HOURS. I love this ship so much; I will talk more of it in the Concluding thoughts.

The epilogue: Alec being the inquisitor is perfect, and Magnus being the high warlock of Alicante is perfection.

 

SIZZY

 

Nothing much to say, except they happened! Finally. I do see it was a bit rushed, but I still ship it. I feel like they were going to make it slow burn in season 4, and have the heavenly fire plotline be a bigger thing.

 

MAIA

 

Her opening a restaurant is perfect! And it being Taki’s? I love it so much.

 

OTHER RELATIONSHIPS

 

Before I go to the biggest plot; Clary, I’d like to talk about some of the relationships. It was clear that there were going to develop Maia and Bat to be a relationship more in season 4, but I don’t care, I ship it.

I’m glad we had a last Parabatai moment! It was amazing and I love it.

 

JONATHAN, CLARY AND CLACE

 

This plotline makes so much sense. The angel punishing Clary for all the runes she made without His permission is perfect.

Clary used her last rune to defeat Jonathon, and that scene gives tears.

Clace actually made me cry this episode, so hats off. Clary crying set something off in me. I love it but I am heartbroken.

 

 

FINAL CONCLUSION

 

 

I love this show so much. It might have been cringy in season 1, but it has come such a long way. The acting has become much better, the plotlines more interesting.

I just love so many of the characters. Some I may have not liked at the beginning, and I might have problems with some of the choices made during the show.

Sizzy’s beginning was a bit rocky, throwing Maia under the bus. And that is only one problem, but I can’t list all of them.

I just can’t believe there’s only 3 seasons, but you bet my goddamn soul I’ll be rewatching this after months.

My favourite characters of these show are Alec, Magnus and Simon, as you all know. Simon has always been a very interesting character to me, with his humour and plotline, the way he was brought into this world; the Shadow World by Clary. His mother being gone – which I think is a much better thing in the show. Sizzy is also one of my favourite ships.

But this show (and the books, but we’re only talking about the show) sparked one of my top favourite ships of ALL time; Malec.

It means so much to me. I’m a very passionate shipper, but this ship is definitely of the top ones. It’s the chemistry, storyline and just how they come to be.

Season 1 they were the best and only thing good about the show. Alec was in the closet, and their first kiss will always be iconic. Season 2 Alec was learning, his first real relationship. And season 3 we finally see Alec teaching Magnus about the mundane life. Sure, they’ve had some pretty rocky bumps in the road, but they’ve proven time and time again, that they are PERFECT for each other.

Thank you for coming along the way and reading all my opinions on the Shadowhunters show. It really makes me sad that we never got a season 4, but at least we got a happy ending. I will not get criticism that Clary got her memories back and Clace are happy, goodbye.
