Hey guys, it’s Eesha Samantray from the Samantray Post. Do I even need an introduction to what I’m doing? It’s in the title, read it dumbass.
Well, we’re starting off a little negative today. Anyway, I’m
going to be reviewing season 3A of SHADOWHUNTERS.
Honestly, most of these reviews are malec, and I am not going
to apologize.
Carrot’s now celebrating since she’s now a full Shadowhunter. I
guess she wasn’t before? And Clary and Jace are still lying about the wish
Carrot made.
Alec’s the only one who doesn’t trust that they’re not lying.
Which makes sense, have you seen his character? Also, the Parabatai bond, but
that hasn’t been in use since season 1 and the start of season 2.
In the last episode, Luke’s new partner found out about the
shadow world and confronted Luke. Luke lies to her again, which is not
surprising (gaslighting) since everyone seems to be lying this episode? Clary
and Jace, Luke, Simon about the Seelie Queen (Who let him go after branding a
mark on his forehead). Y’all need to just have a chat.
Lilith is GORGEOUS. I’m sorry, she’s beautiful. She’s creepy
but she’s SO pretty. She stares longingly into some babies and a male nurse
sees her, who she sent a bug-monster (we know who that is) to make him a
monster.
Jace has a dream of Jonathon goading him to kill Clary. A bit
off from the books, but we gotta include Will Tudor somehow, eh?
Clary gets some weapons, though I wish a twelve-year-old told
her current weapon sucked, it was cool, I guess.
“The blades choose you.”
As if I don’t see enough Harry Potter inspo, already. Luke
tells the truth to Holly (the partner) because the monster literally kidnaped
her, so.
Now, we need Malec. Magnus lost his position being the High
Warlock of Brooklyn, and didn’t share his feelings with Alec, who finds out
later by Catarina.
And Alec says he got an offer for a position in Idris, but no
one talked what they felt until the end.
Y’all need to stop lying to each other. I love you guys, but
learn the lesson from last season. Lying no good.
Alec and Magnus go to a Warlock party hosted by Lorenzo, the
new High Warlock of Brooklyn. No surprise, he’s a jerk.
But at least we saw Alec being a father figure to Madzie, and a
hint for them to adopt her.
GAH, I LOVE THEM!
Everyone’s magic gets corrupted at the party, showing
everyone’s Marks; Catarina’s blue skin, Lorenzo’s lizard skin, and Magnus’s cat
eyes.
Lorenzo blames Magnus, because the magic that corrupted the Ley
Lines were very old and demonic that Magnus could only produce because of his
father.
Magnus reveals to Alec that his father is Asmodeus, one of the
Princes’ of hell. Well, that reveal was bigger in the books.
But it works with these characters, because Magnus has already
shared some of his past.
Malec sneak into Lorenzo’s house to see what corrupted the Ley
Lines. And Alec put on the funniest diversion talking to Lorenzo.
Alec: “I’M DOING MY BEST MAGNUS!”
They do it, and Magnus finds out it’s actually a much more powerful
demon, so yay for us.
They have a plan to make the institute on Ley Lines, then flood
it with angelic power to help them. Raj is a little b-word again, and I WANT
HIM TO JUST DIE. JUST KILL HIM, JACE.
THEY’RE BOTH SO COMPETITIVE I LOVE THEM.
Now let’s switch to the other plot line.
Clary and Jace go on a date, but TA-DA, Simon and Maia are
there too. Let’s just say – it’s a little awkward; Simon seems to know more
about Clary than Jace (which makes sense because he’s known her longer, but it
doesn’t make it less awkward), and Jace reveals Maia and him did it.
Good job, Jace.
I didn’t mention it before because I didn’t think it was
relevant, as Simon said “I just assumed everyone had slept with Jace at that
point. It’ll be time for before he and I do it.”
Jimon fans are quaking.
The werewolves don’t seem to like Simon, and they try to attack
him, but that doesn’t go well. His mark activates a shield and one of them
almost dies.
Jacey is convinced that Jonathan/Sebastian is the Owl, and they
track a girl who it hadn’t turned yet to a party.
Maryse’s divorce has been finalized and she planned to have
dinner in Magnus’s place. Izzy and Jace both left for the party; Alec and Magnus
are alone.
We learn Alec’s cooking is horrible. I guess it runs in the
family. Luckily, Magnus fixes it with his magic, when the doorbell rings.
Let’s talk a bit about Maryse. I hated her at the beginning;
how she treated Izzy and Magnus, how strict she was. But I love her now. Her
character development is amazing.
She reveals that she’s going to stripped of her runes and
exiled from Alicante. Seriously. Right when we like her? Well, at least she’ll
be visiting us more. Don’t worry, you’ll be getting a love interest soon,
Maryse.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! REPEAT IT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!
Anyway, in the other plotline, it isn’t Jonathan who’s the Owl,
since Izzy’s whip didn’t affect him. Who could it be? TA DUH, JACE!
Raphael’s sister died, and I admit I teared up. The Seelie Queen isn’t allowing Simon into
the Realm, and Heidi is back – the vampire Simon Turned.
Jace is acting a little worrisome for the others, since they
don’t know that Lilith is possessing him. Alec thinks it’s a hereditary mental
issue, inherited from his mother, and obviously, Jace doesn’t take it well.
But I don’t blame Alec. Wouldn’t you be worried?
Heidi is on the loose, and she feeds on a mundane. She goes to Simon’s
apartment, and smells all his clothes? Stalker Alert.
It turns out she turned the mundane into a vampire, and
kidnapped Raphael for revenge. Clary and Izzy save him, but Izzy finds out that
Raphael had kept Heidi to experiment on her to find how to become a Daylighter.
JORDAN IS INTRODUCED!!! The actor who plays him is the same guy
who plays a merman in that mermaid show I was obsessed with when I was younger.
Love Jordan, seeing him just reminds me of that show, and I
don’t think that’s a bad thing.
The episode ends with Lilith going to Magnus for some help. Get
away from him, you horrid beautiful witch!
Lilith just wants an un-love potion for Jace so that he can ‘stay
on mission’. Magnus gives it, but she needs a sliver of Clary’s soul to
complete it.
Alec sees Magnus going through a box, and when he’s gone, takes
it out. Alec, a bit weird going through your boyfriend’s stuff, but hey, what
do I know?
Jace decides to go to the City of Bones for treatment, which I applaud!
Finally, someone in a show goes for medical support! Sure, he didn’t go, but at
least he tried, and it wasn’t his fault.
Clary, who doesn’t support this, goes to Cleophas with Luke to
summon the Angel for help. I get it, he’s only been acting weird after you
brough him back, but why deny going to the City of Bones?
Simon and Jace meet at the Hunter’s Moon, and Jace wants to
help him find out who’s been cancelling his gigs. Surprise, they find out
Jordan’s [kyle] a werewolf.
[gasp] I thought he was a mermaid.
#Betrayal.
Alec sees a letter from Magnus’s previous lover. Jealous Alec
activated.
Cleophas hugs Clary instead of her own brother. I’m laughing. Clary
summons Ithuriel, who before gives any useful information, is murdered by
Lilith, then she takes a sliver of Clary’s soul.
Alec confesses he looked at Magnus’s box, but he already knew. Alec
apologizes, and Magnus forgives him. Magnus explains that the box if filled
with possessions of his past loves. And Alec isn’t exactly jealous. It makes
him think of the future.
I don’t blame Alec. How do you react when you find out, and think
about how your significant other will move on after you die? But Magnus isn’t
in the wrong either. He’s been alive for a long time, and he obviously doesn’t
want to think about that day.
But Magnus shouldn’t have just brushed it off. It is definite
that they’ll have to deal with this later, and by the look of Alec when Magnus
left, Brooding Alec activated. He definitely is going to think about this all
night.
Oh yeah, and Jace ain’t in love with Clary anymore.
Heidi finally meets Simon, and he’s like “Who the hell are you?”
but he quickly finds out. He says he’ll be there for him, but when Heidi tries
to kiss him, be backs off and says he has a girlfriend. Bad move, Simone. Her
face was definitely the face of a villain.
Malec have breakfast, and it quickly turns into a fight.
“Maybe you should save the spatula I used for your little box.”
Alec, not at the dinner table please. But Magnus puts his fork down.
They both were at fault. Yes, Alec wasn’t right to act condescending and
he was a little childish. But Magnus was deflecting it for the reason because
he was inexperienced. Alec has the right to be worried for the future, but not
the way he executed it, and Magnus has been alive for a long time. He doesn’t
want to think about the future. Magnus might have said Alec was acting like a
child, but he definitely regretted it the moment it came out of his mouth. And
Alec shouldn’t have just left.
But it was sweet the parallel of Izzy saying they can work out
everything to Alec and Clary saying the same to Magnus.
Clary and Magnus meet BROTHER ZACHARIAH! Let me tell you I screamed.
Why doesn’t he have a British accent? Also, his hair is atrocious. But I don’t
care.
“Any friend of Will Herondale is a friend of mine.”
[squeals]
Alec, Owl!Jace, Izzy and Maryse are together at the bar. And
Underhill is there. The whole time, I was ‘No, no, no, no, no, no. don’t cheat,
don’t cheat.’
But the fact he said, “Magnus and I had our first date here.”
It erased my doubt. The boy is head over heels.
Maryse and Luke were definitely flirting. Did you see their
smiles? Someone’s in loooove. I ship it, y’all.
Heidi sees Izzy with Simon, and thinks she’s his girlfriend and
tries to attack her.
But since she’s a trained Shadowhunter, she obviously wins. And
Heidi goes to the Praetor Lupus.
Oh, and Jace makes Ollie (the mundane partner) one of Lilith’s
disciples. Talk about foreshadowing come true.
Jace throws Clary off a roof and into a roof after telling her he
doesn’t love her. Damn, Owl!Jace is savage. And I call bullshit; how the hell
did she survive that fall? And a second later she is walking? She should have
her spine broken and be lying on an hospital bed, sir.
Finally, Clary tells everyone about the wish.
Oh, this scene is perfect. How we all are doubtful what Alec
would do. How everyone is looking at Alec and Clary.
As one comment said,
Yes @rachel mcbride, yes, we do.
Ha-ha, true.
ALSO, I LOVE ALEC. I JUST WANT TO SAY THIS. I LOVE THIS BOY SO
MUCH. HE IS SO, GAH HE’S THE BEST.
Now that I got that out, Imogen died. Didn’t like her anyway, so…RIP.
They caught Owl!Jace, and his best insult to Izzy was:
“When your delusional confidence gets you killed, I’ll be sure
to tell your Mundane boyfriend that you died in a tragic jewellery-making
accident.”
Honey, try harder. Real!Jace would’ve absolutely destroyed her.
Also, Clary got arrested. But the good thing is that Malec have reunited and
have apologized for their words.
God, Maia and Jordan’s scenes are so uncomfortable.
“Jordan: I know you don’t want me around, but you matter to me.
Maia: Stop!
Jordan: And you always will.
Maia: I said stop! It’s taken everything I’ve had to put you behind me. Why won’t you just let me hate you? Just let me hate you!”
This is honestly Maia’s best scene. The actress is acting her
ass off. Maia leaves to get some space, so Simon and Jordan are alone.
Back to getting Jace, Magnus has a plan for Alec and Izzy to go
into Jace’s mind, find him and bring him back.
They both find an alternate version of Jace. Izzy got the
younger version, while Alec comforted the older version.
But, alas, they couldn’t get him back since Lilith had come.
LEAVE HIM ALONE, YOU BISH!
But she doesn’t want to risk a war with his father, so she leaves
him alone. I don’t know why this kind of reminds me of Percy Jackson.
And Clary got a death sentence. But before that Jia was like ‘You
don’t know sacrifice. Luckily, you’ll now learn it.’ How the hell is she gonna
learn it, if she’s dead? Jia, you don’t fricken make sense.
Clary sees the Circle member burned alive. I guess the song
playing was wrong, they ain’t gonna be buryin’.
Simon is mad at Jordan for pushing Maia away. But he shows him
what the Mark of Cain is.
Magnus found a spell to get Jace back; but he needs the power
of a dozen warlocks and the approval of the High Warlock of Brooklyn.
Shit, time to search for a new spell, Maggie.
Clary says that she’ll bring back Valentine for questioning if
they don’t fricken kill her. [Bad idea, son]
Lorenzo refuses Magnus, and we get an epic magic fight scene,
and Magnus obviously wins, because he’s literally the most powerful warlock.
Lilith broke out Heidi…Oh, hell no.
She calls Simon, and she’s at his mother and sister’s house…OH,
HELL NO.
Heidi tells Simon’s family he’s a vampire, and to prove it, she
cuts a bit of Simon’s sister, knowing Simon is hungry for blood…and he bits
her.
Yikes.
And Simon’s mother holds a knife to him, and tells him he’s a
monster.
This is my favorite scene because…do I even need to say? The
emotional stakes, the blackmailing, the manipulating. Ok, not those. But the
tension and acting is amazing.
This scene is so much better than the book’s.
Clary brings back Valentine, and they get valuble information,
but he dies because of Jace immediately after.
Izzy comforts Simon.
FINALLY. SIZZY IS FINALLY HAPPENING. MAYBE NOT UNTIL NEXT
SEASON 3B BUT THANK GOD. I WAS SICK OF MAIA AND HIM.
Uh oh, Magnus found a way to bring Jace back, but he needs magic.
And the only way is to havr his father’s help. ASMODEUS TIME! I thought he’d come
next season 3b but this is a pleasant surprise.
Simon goes to his sister.
And this scene is amazing as well. Acting –
All Simon and Malec scenes are just so well acted.
How she accepts him – GAH, I’m emotional.
We have a sweet Malec moment before Magnus goes to Edom. Let me
just say – Asmodeus is HANDSOME.
Ugh, this awkward hug reminds me of the Draco and Voldemort hug
in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Magnus insults Asmodeus before asking for help?
I love you Magnus, but maybe not the best strategy if need
something.
Asmodeus wants Magnus to rule with him, but Magnus asks him if
there’s anything else. Oh, you shouldn’t asked like that.
Simon, Luke, Izzy and Simon go to Lilth’s place. Simon goes to
save Clary, Izzy and Luke distract, while Alec scans for Jace.
Well, he found Jace pretty quickly. It’s time for Alec Vs. Jace
Part 2. And Alec hold off for about five minutes. Good job, but then Jace
breaks his hand! Owl, you’re gonna pay for that, bish.
Jace stabs Alec with his own ARROW. I can’t – I can’t deal with
this. Magnus comes and makes Jace himself again.
But apparently, he doesn’t have his magic anymore; that was Asmodeus’s
price.
I’M BAWLING. I KNOW HE DOESN’T DIE AND THE IRATZE RUNE SAVES
HIM, BUT I AM STILL HEARTBROKEN.
HE IS NOT DEAD, BUT MY HEART IS.
GAH.
Well back to the main storyline that I do not care about. Simon
and Clary make a plan, using Liltith’s maternal instincts to save his son when Simon
almost kills Jonathon, and it works! So, good? But then the whole roof bursts
apart because Lilith had some INTENTIONS.
And they end the season by saying “Clary’s dead.”
Honey, we know that ain’t true. She the main character. This show
would be nowhere with out Jace or Clary. But without Alec and Magnus there
wouldn’t be an audience, but that’s another story.
This is much better than season 2, and infinitely better than
season 1.
The plotline is much more enjoyable and interesting, and the
acting is much more better. I definitely think Kat and Dom as Clary and Jace
have now fit into their characters, and I like them more.
Dom definitely nailed the emotional scenes in episode 8 and
season 2&3 overall. Same for Clary. Poor Jace has been suffering for so
long, so I think it makes sense for Clary to be connected with Jonathan instead,
since it would be overkill and LEAVE HIM THE HECK ALONE.
So, I am officially a Jace stan now. The poor boy needs some
love.
I’ll be going for vacation for five days, and I’ll be watching season
3B after I come back, so I’ll post first 10 episodes in one post after I come
back, and the final two episodes because I want to.
Bye!
