Hey guys!!! It’s Eesha Samantray from the Samantray
Post. This part two for my ‘the mortal instruments’ review. Today I’m going to
review the ‘City of Bones’ movie adaptation of the books.
After I finish the rest of the book series, I’ll post the review and start the review for the TV series adaptations!
the City of Bones movie is Bad
This is so annoying. You know what happened? My plan
was to read the city of bones book (yup this me hasn’t reread the other books
yet) and watch the movie, review and compare it with the book and the series.
But it got removed from Disney+! I was drowned with
sorrow for a day but then found out it was available FOR FREE on YouTube! I
didn’t care it was in bad quality, I was ecstatic!
Anyway, let’s review it.
first: 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓬𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰!
I wanted to talk about the casting first.
Clary Fray: she isn’t really how I imagined her. I
pictured her with bright red hair like how it’s described in the books.
Jace Herondale: no offence to the actor, but he looks
like a ghost. I actually like his depiction of Jace. Who knew I would like
Grindelwald as Jace?
Isabelle Lightwood: I don’t really know how to feel
about her…maybe I’m biased because of the show?
Or is it the fact THAT WE GOT ONLY FIVE MINUTES OF HER
Simon: WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME THAT KLAUS EFFING
HARGREEVES PLAYED SIMON. I still picture the show version but he’s definitely
my favorite part of the movie.
Alec Lightwood: the one I wanted to talk about the
most. No disrespect to the actor, BUT HE LOOKS LIKE HE’S IN HIS THIRTIES!
Maybe I’m biased, because Matthew Daddario, but can you blame me? Matthew as
Alec is perfection.
𝓯𝓲𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓵𝔂, 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓶𝓸𝓿𝓲𝓮
In the first 40 minutes, Clary finds about Shadowhunters,
Jace looks like a ghost with his hoodie, and Alec is already grumpy and mean to
her.
I mean, there were some differences, but eh.
Isabelle is pretty. Both here and in the show…sigh. We
haven’t talked about Robert Sheehan as Simon! Very much the best of the movie.
I felt really sad that he was rejected by Clary.
Like come on, you’re going to choose that Draco
wannabe than this god of a man. Clary’s making some bad choices, man.
Magnus Bane! I’m not going to talk about the guy who
plays him much, because he’s dead and I don’t want to disrespect his death. But
I’m sorry that I prefer the Shadowhunters version.
Anyway, same plotline, Hodge betrays them, but
Valentine is bringing a demon? Have I got this all wrong? I don’t understand.
Except that Valentine doesn’t seem like a proper villain. He seems like the
crazy guy that brings the villain.
Magnus heals Alec like in the book.
Magnus taking fashion tips from Jace…and looks better.
Valentine is too close to Clary while saying he’s, her
father. POLICE OPEN UP!
Sibling reveal happens, and whatever.
Now, for ending thoughts! This movie is a two for me,
guys. The conversations were awkward without music like when Alec got injured,
there should’ve been tense music.
Clary – the actress wasn’t doing it for me. Her acting
was off, when Jamie was doing his good performance, she would have this tamed
yet weird voice, can’t describe. Though it isn’t as bad as season one acting…
One criticism (over many) – there should’ve been more
MALEC! Maybe then there would be more than 13% on rotten tomatoes (while Shadowhunters
is 80).
Alright, then. After I finish the series, we’ll dive into the all the episodes of the Shadowhunters. There'll be episode by episode review like in Umbrella Academy, so it'll be pretty long.
I'll post my review for the rest of the book series after I finish it. I hope you enjoyed this book adaptation review, bye!
