INTRODUCTION
Hi! I’m Eesha Samantray from the Samantray Post. Today, I’m going to talk about two book series. ‘The Mortal Instruments’.
The Mortal
Instruments is about a series of six young adult fantasy novels written by
author Cassandra Clare. It follows Clarissa Fray, who finds out that she is a
Shadowhunter, who protect the world against demons and other dark forces.
Also, today is my birthday! I mean, when I’m typing it
is, because I’ll be posting this after a looooong time.
I’ll admit, Cassandra’s writing isn’t as bad as I thought.
Sometimes, I raised my eyebrows, but this overall an enjoyable book…except for
clace…
Clary…I hate her. I forgot how much Simon was…you know
in the this book. I’ll skip till we meet the main characters.
Jace: Sarcastic asshole that I hate.
Isabelle: one dimensional character in this one. Also hate
her here.
Alec: My favorite! Love him.
I love when he makes comments about Clary and ignores
her. Go king! And the malec snippets…
Dude, Jace actually said he’s ‘not like other boys’!
We did it!
Anyway, not much to say. Info dumps arew strong in this
one. The sibling reveal…god. No. I hate this.
MAGNUS HEALS ALEC!!!!!!
Well, that’s it. Three stars for me. Enjoyable but frustrating,
and not in a good way. One complaint, bigger than the other, not enough MALEC!
Next!
CITY OF ASHES
I’ll be honest. I don’t remember any of the plot of
this except Simon turning into a vampire. That says something of this book. Anyway,
let’s read!
So, I don’t know why I didn’t remember the plot.
Draining blood from underage downworlders to summon a demon army? Hell, I love
that shit.
Anyway, Clary and Jace have their sibling longing…which
I do not have time for, bish. I’m here for malec.
Simon and Clary are dating. Which…I saw it coming. Oh my
god, you mean Clary used Simon even when she likes someone else only hurting
him…I can’t believe it. Maia, our girl, is
introduced, and she’s like ‘it’s so sweet that Clary likes Jace like that!’ and
Simon is just silent.
Man, this is the moment you question the women you’re
into Simon. Clary really will choose her brother over you, man. Anyway, cue me
looking into the summary for this book to know what was next. Oh yeah, Jace is
locked up in the city of bones until he is questioned, because the Inquisitor thinks he’s a spy…whatever.
Alec, Clary and Isabelle recue Jace, but the silent
brothers are dead. I DON’T CARE ABOUT BROTHER JERAMIAH, ALL I NEED TO KNOW IS
IF BROTHER ZACHARIAH IS SAFE, BISH!
Anyway, Magnus comes, and he’s the sassy bi we needed.
‘Is he dead?’ ‘I can kick him if you want me to’ I love him.
Our fabulous warlock finds out what Valentine wants to
do and the Faerie Queen calls them for a chat. And this is when I remembered
something I had buried deep in my memories so I wouldn’t need to think of it
again…
Alec stays back with Magnus, and this is what I think his thoughts were.
‘Oh no…I’m going to stay here, watching TV with my boyfriend and not go on a dangerous mission…oh, how I hate this.’
The Queen forces Clary and Jace to kiss…are you that
starved for entertainment, ma’am? You could’ve made Jace and Simon kiss and it would’ve
been more entertaining…or am I biased?
And I feel so bad for Simon. He’s in this new world,
thinking he’s maybe a vampire. His crush is finally is girlfriend. But she
kisses her brother. Sure, you could say they were forced. But why the frick was
it so passionate, then?
Simon turns into a vampire and I remember in the show
it being the saddest thing all season, except when Alec insulted Magnus…I still
am hurt.
Clary can make runes…and she makes a fearless rune, and
tries it on Alec. What an idea, carrot. His PARENTS are near, and he tries to
come out. Magnus, being the good boyfriend he is, knew this wasn’t what he
wanted, and knocks him out. Magnus: million. Jace: 0. You know what I’m getting
at here.
Simon and Maia get kidnapped by Valentine. Because draining
blood. This shit is still going on, I guess. Simon dies, but I don’t believe that
for one second. A battle ensues on the ship, and Alec saves Izzy but falls in
the water.
Guess who saves him. Yes, our savior warlock; Magnus.
Alec’s like, ‘hey I need to get back on the ship,’ and Magnus is like, ‘I like
you but I have no strength’ and Alec, being the good boy he is, ‘take my strength,
bish. I have no use there anyway.’
I love them. Well, that’s it. All the important parts to me, anyway. Exams are going on, so I don’t know how I’m going to complete the rest of the series, but I will. This book definitely was an improvement. Same three stars though. Well, see you in a scroll, I guess.
CITY OF GLASS
All right, it’s been a long time since I’ve read a large
portion of the book. Not my fault; exams. So, forgive me if I forget anything.
So, after Simon breaks up with Clary (the best decision
he’s made so far, good for him) Clary’s packing to Idris to wake her mom or whatever.
Jace is like ‘Hun, don’t come or you die,’ and he tries to convince Simon to
tell everyone she can’t come.
Forsaken attack, Simon almost dies and Madelaine does
die. Whoops. Clary arrived at the Institute after the battle ended. She found
from Magnus that everyone left and he won’t help her. Clap! Clap! Clap! Thank
you, Magnus. She better PAY for you to make a portal. I know you like Alec, and
I do too, but you need to keep business man.
In Alicante, Simon wakes up and we meet the other Shadowhunters.
Aline Penhallow – who I like very much and hope is in the dark artifices – and Sebastian
Verlac – who we can’t talk about right now.
Clary, being a little shit, doesn’t think about anyone
else, and makes a portal making her and Luke being thrown in Lake Lyn. I hate
you. And like the idiot she is, drinks the water and hallucinates. I hope you
die.
But being The Main Character™, she – unfortunately –
survives. They meet Amatis – Lukie boy’s sister.
Back to the interesting plotline, Alec finally
appears! My favorite character! Where have you fricken been! Right, a Clave
meeting, he’s actually doing something and an adult. He says Aldertree (the new
inquisitor, who I fricken hate more than the first) is calling Simon to go back
to New York.
But (shocker!) he takes Simon to a cell.
Clary – wakes up and sees that Amatis is her babysitter.
She tells her she can’t go express her incestuous impulses to her brother and makes
her stay. Reasonable. But Clary – being a dumbass, leaves anyway.
Instead of meeting Jace, she meets Isabelle, who calls
out Clary for not thinking of others while doing reckless things! Oh my god,
you just became infinitely better, Izzy. Call her the heck out!
But Clary obviously doesn’t listen – no, no, no – and walks
in Jace and Aline kissing. Don’t worry, babe, girlie doesn’t like the Draco
Malfoy knockoff, she just be gay.
Moments after, Alec comes back! Girl, I missed you. With
important information, mind you! But Jace just focuses on berating Clary – nobody
cares, man!
After she left, Alec finally says that he called Magnus
because he felt the Inquisitor fishy. See, Alec is the only one doing something
useful! He found out that Simon is locked up! Respect (bangs the characters’
heads on a table) Alec Effin Lightwood!
The Inquisitor reveals his plan – to blame the
Lightwoods for Valentine’s troubles to make the others trust the Clave again.
He says that nothing would happen to the Lightwood children, EXCEPT MAYBE THE
ELDEST!!!!
LISTEN HERE YOU LITTLE SHIT
You can kill any other Lightwood sibling – Jace and
Isabelle, I don’t care. BUT IF YOU THREATEN ALEC GODAMN LIGHTWOOD, I CARVE OUT
YOUR EYES KAZ BREKKER STYLE.
Anyway, Simon refuses to do it.
Sebastian follows Clary and insisted to be with her till
she reached Amatis. Amatis is reasonably disappointed with Clary, and says
(like Izzy) that she doesn’t think of the others around her. Damn, everyone realty
going on Clary. Maybe that’s why I like this book very much.
Simon is awaken by Jace who’s ready to break him out,
but Simon being the best, refuses so that the Lightwoods won’t be blames.
Sebastian wakes Clary and says he knows where Ragnor
Fell is. Magnus is there instead. I MISSED
YOU SO MUCH! He says Ragnor was killed,
the book of white is in Valentine’s library. It contains her mother’s antidote.
He tells her and Jace need to get it, and he will prepare an antidote.
And Clary’s like why are you doing this, and he’s ‘Girl,
this ain’t for free. I want that book.’
Magnus released Sebastian from the spell. Let’s talk about
Sebastian. I didn’t trust him from the start. A nice character in this book? Nah,
man, must be fake. And he also became very creepy. From the way he insists to
stay with Clary, then fricken KISSED HER! Hun, incest ain’t good. He told her
about Simon.
Clary and Jace leave to the manor. He finds out he’s part
“demon”. Hun, no.
City’s attacked by demons. Alec saves Isabelle. He
leaves her with Max and Sebastian, trusting they’ll take care of him. Hun, no.
Sebastian attacked Izzy with a hammer.
Alec finds Magnus!!!!! He, in the middle of a demon attack,
asks why the hell hasn’t he called him back?!!!! A valid question, mind you. Magnus
is disappointed that he hasn’t admitted his feelings. But Alec says that if they
survive, HE WILL INTRODUCE HIM TO HIS PARENTS!
Clary talked with Magnus, giving him the book of white.
Sebastian appeared, and Alec is mad that he left Izzy and Max alone.
RESPECTABLE BROTHER HERE!
We find out that Hodge was the prisoner that was talking
with Simon! Alec is actually the one who finds it out, just saying. Hodge was going
to reveal something, when Sebastian fricken killed him.
And then goes on a rant.
“’You,’ [Sebastian] said to Jace. ‘every second you’re not panting over your own sister, you’re whining on and on about daddy didn’t love you. Well, who could blame him?-’”
Damn, man. You’re right, but fricken hypocritical. They
ain’t even siblings, while you kissed your sister when she didn’t know about it.
You might be wondering why I cut it off there. Well, I’m
going to rant right now.
“’-And you-’ he turned his sneer to Alec. ‘I think we know what’s wrong with you. They shouldn’t let your kind in the Clave. You’re disgusting.’”
I will kill you, you homophobic piece of shit.
You can insult clace all you want, but Alec? I kill
literally punch your gut out.
Incest, and now homophobia? Hun, you are going to be
executed.
Max is dead. Oops. Kinda a big deal.
Seb isn’t really Seb and Clary and Simon went to Luke and
told him what they found out when a projection of Valentine appeared in the
room, scaring everyone. He told them that if they don’t obey him, he will come
with a bigger army and destroy every Shadowhunter. Before he left, he killed
the Inquisitor. Well, the only good thing you’ve done so far.
He threatened Alec and must pay.
Then, Jocelyn shows up. I hate Jocelyn. I don’t mind her
as a character in the books at first, then I watched the show, and now I hate her
in the books.
Clary fricken insults her mom.
They figured out that the clave refused to work with the
Downworlders and surrender themselves to Valentine when the gates didn’t open
for the Downworlders coming towards Alicante.
Clary rushed towards the Accords Hall, hoping that she
will be able to convince them otherwise. Clary told everyone about her power to
create new runes and explained to them that she could bind Shadowhunters to
Downworlders in such a way that they would share each other’s abilities.
Jocelyn reveals Jonathon is Sebastian, and Jace isn’t
her sister, and Clary is ecstatic.
Clave wants Clary to prove she can a room. And makes
everyone see the one who they love most. And the highlight for this scene, is
Alec looking at Magnus!!!!!!!
They agree, and everyone is binding themselves to Downworlders.
Alec goes to Magnus! Then KISSES him in front of all the Shadowhunters and Downworlders
and his parents!!!!!
I expected a sweet scene of Alec coming out, and his
parent saying ‘We except you for who you are! We love you no matter what!’ but I
like Alec being a badass more. And I thought Magnus was the dramatic one.
Jk, I love this and I am crying right now. You have no
idea of the joy I feel when I write of Malec.
Does anything else happen? Oh right, they have a
battle and stuff. Sebastian and Jace fight. He kills him. Blah blah.
Clary was thrown once more in Lake Lyn and the one who
pulled her out was Valentine. He’s going to summon Raziel, the angel.
Jace comes and Valentine kills him. Guys, you cannot
make me think that. He is literally in the cover of the later books (the
original ones, not mine).
Valentine summons the angel, and Raziel’s like ‘Why
the heck did you call me?’ and he’s like, ‘The honor the Shadowhunters have
gone-’ ‘I literally do not care.’
And the angel just spits out fire and kills him. This
is so funny to me, I can’t. I do prefer the show’s thing, where Clary actually kills
Valentine, but oh god this is funny.
Clary takes the wish and asks for Jace back? Hun, you
finally got rid of him. Get peace between Downworlders and Shadowhunters, they
really need it. Heck, money would’ve been better.
Epilogue: I just love how Magnus is so smug. And flirty
with Alec. Let me enjoy it when it lasts, because I know about the next book.
This book is four stars, definitely an improvement. I love
the Malec. Hesitant about the next one. But let’s see.
Now, let's talk about the series as a whole. This was supposed to be the end of the series, and I like it. Though it did seem unfinished.
Other than the incest, it was pretty enjoyable, but really frustrating being in Clary's head. Also Malec was less.
Bye guys, hope you enjoyed this! I already watched and reviewed the movie, and tomorrow I'll be editing it in one post and uploading.
Bye!
